IoT, the abbreviation of the Internet of Things, was first mentioned and started using in 1999 when Kevin Ashton was in charge of supply chain management using RFID in Procter & Gamble (P&G). Attaching RFID to all objects is the beginning of IoT for an efficiency of the inventory management system. And, the current IoT has grown into a service that connects between reality and virtual. This is because the physical things that happen in reality are influencing another reality space through the Internet.




I mentioned IoT prior to talking about the cloud because both were limited as their respective services. Cloud computing has already been as technology and concept, but it has not become common rapidly. IoT also has limited scalability due to the limitation of the IoT Device.



However, it has great potential as each service is combined into one service. While IoT is combined with the cloud, and the cloud works along with big data, artificial intelligence, and deep running, even simple data can create new services.  For example, by analyzing the power consumption of the area and building for 1 and 2 years, we can predict the energy consumption of this or next year to improve the energy efficiency, and it is possible to predict the replacement period of the facility or prevent the accidents through the degree of operation of the facility or surrounding environment. Also, it is used to analyze trends of the market to regulate the demand and supply. The key point is that the future of natural disasters, accidents, and the economy will be predicted even if simple data is accumulated enough and the accurate analysis is made.



7 Layers of the IoT Ecosystem

The IoT cloud platform is already huge. Providing applications for connecting things to the internet and for connecting big data, artificial intelligence, and deep running services to cloud server requires collaboration in various areas. And it will grow more complex and huge in the future. Google, Amazon, and other global companies have already begun to unveil their developed IoT cloud platform. On the other hand, companies that have difficulty developing an IoT cloud platform are beginning to be part of it. They use open platforms to provide connectors for Things, cloud services, analyze data, and application services.



IoT Cloud Platform Providers

The access to the IoT cloud platform is now becoming easier with the advent of open source platforms.  It will be universal from global companies to small companies at high speed and will be used across all industries without any boundaries. Therefore, the IoT cloud platform will be used to create new services such as control devices, monitoring, future forecasting through analysis of data, a connection between different fields, collaborating solution and so on.
