In this curation, we’re going to talk about home automation, aka smart home.

Home automation or smart home (aka domotics or domotica) is the residential extension of building automation and involves the control and automation of lighting, heating (such as smart thermostats), ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), and security, as well as home appliances such as washer/dryers, ovens or refrigerators/freezers that use WiFi for remote monitoring.

Many changes have occurred in daily life since the Internet of Things industry have developed significantly. The typical example of this is home automation.




In the past, the term Ubiquitos meant users can connect to the network anywhere at any time. But there were limiting factors of what users might need like an expensive equipment or specific service.

However now the word Internet of Things enabled many hosts to connect to the Internet and exchange information over the Internet; many services notify customers about the host and provide service for managing and controling the host.

As result, users are now able to monitor and control other devices via Internet their own mobile phone or personal devices.

The next projects are related to home automation from ARMmbed.

Users can check the current condition of the house via sensors and cameras.

Home Security Lamp

This project is a security system using an ultrasonic sensor. As the movement of the object is detected by the ultrasonic sensor, the camera automatically takes pictures and the pictures are sent to the web right away. If users are able to connect to the web, they can monitor when and what occurred by checking the pictures and the time the picttures were taken.

Home Monitoring System

This project shows how to make a monitoring system using a temperature sensor and a motion sensor. This system can automatically send an alarm to users when the value of the motion sensor changes due to any  external factors or if there are temperature changes.
