The Trend of Clones of Arduino Shields using W5100

In this article, I would like to introduce VAR products using WIZnet’s W5500.

The board above is the W5500-EVB board from WIZnet.
W5500 is an embedded Internet solution using Hardware TCP/IP technology; the chip internally has a hardware logic that deals with communication protocols such as TCP, UDP, IPv4, ICMP, IGMP, ARP, and PPPoE. W5500 also has memory for buffer and 8 independent hardware sockets can be used simultaneously.

W5500-EVB is designed to be pin-compatible with ‘Arduino shields’ for the ‘Arduino UNO Rev3′ and other footprint-compatible boards. It is based on the NXP LPC11E36 MCU with a 32-bit ARM® Cortex™-M0 core running at 50MHz and includes 96kB Flash memory, 12kB SRAM, 4kB EEPROM and various interfaces including SPI/SSP, I2C, UART, ADC, PWM and other I/O interfaces.
The W5500 EVB provides benefits in developing easier and powerful network applications on small form-factor and non-OS based embedded devices using the W5500.

In common with W5100, there are various boards with W5500 chip including W5500-EVB.

Adafruit Ethernet FeatherWing

1.Adafruit Ethernet FeatherWing
The first VAR Product I would like to introduce is an Ethernet module for Featherboard made by Adafruit. MCU is not included but it is simply made to compatible with Featherboard.

If your Feather board is going to be part of a permanent installation, this Ethernet FeatherWing will let you add quick and easy wired Internet. Just plug in a standard Ethernet cable, and run the Ethernet2 library for cross-platform networking.

The best feature of Arch Link is the development board for supporting ARM mbed. Bluetooth is also supported since nRF51822 chip from Nordic is included.

With Arduino form factor, Grove connectors and micro SD interface, it is extremely easy to create a bluetooth low energy device. For more information, refer to the link provided.

3.SweetPea NetCat
The biggest problem an IoT device face is usually the size of the product. It is determined by the size of each module forming the product. This is why developers prefer smaller modules. This VAR Product is an Ethernet module made with compact design using WIZnet’s W5500 for those prefer to use a smaller Ethernet module.

4.Nogs Stamp CN1
This module has better peformance than the previous ones I mentioned above. It is suitable if you want to implement a relatively high performance since it has W5500 Ethernet-Controller and ARM Cortex-M4. The approximate performance is 120MHz Clock Speed, 160kB RAM, and 1024 kB Flash memory.
